Functions as part of the dialysis health care team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse in accordance with organization policies, procedures, and training and in compliance with regulations set forth by the corporation, state, and federal agencies. Responsible for the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines. Assist in the maintenance of a safe and clean working environment. Supports the organization commitment to the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and CQI Activities, including those related to patient satisfaction and actively participates in process improvement activities that enhance the likelihood that patients will achieve the organization Quality Enhancement Goals (QEP).Principal duties include patient education on adequacy measures, welcoming patients, evaluating vascular access, initiating and monitoring dialysis treatment, obtaining vital signs, documenting treatment data, reporting changes in patient condition, infection control, and assisting in training staff. Also responsible for maintaining environmental integrity, cleaning equipment, preparing for dialysis treatment, and participating in Continuous Quality Improvement activities.Additional responsibilities include transitional care unit support, home therapies program assistance, clerical duties, inventory management, and patient home support as permitted by state law. Physical demands include frequent standing, lifting up to 40 lbs with assistance, and working in a healthcare environment with potential exposure to infectious materials.Education and licenses required include a High School diploma or G.E.D., CMS-approved state and/or national certification, and any appropriate state licensure. Previous patient care experience preferred. Continued employment depends on successful completion of dialysis training and CPR certification.
