Job Description



AECOM is actively seeking a Geologist to serve as a task leader for a variety environmental projects including remedial investigations, feasibility studies, and remedial actions in the Seattle, Washington area. The ideal candidate will hold a BS in Geology or Engineering and bring proven experience in environmental investigation and remediation projects. Attention to detail is highly important and we welcome candidates experienced with Federal/Department of Defense projects.

Hands-on experience spanning environmental investigations through site clean-up and closure is critical to success in this role. You'll collaborate with dynamic project teams including AECOM staff and subcontractors while enjoying the variety that comes with working on a wide range of projects. We offer opportunities to mentor junior staff and maintain our strong commitment to workplace health and safety. This role includes fieldwork with travel and subcontractor oversight responsibilities.

Responsibilities will include, but not limited to the following:

  • Support costing and planning of remedial investigations and actions
  • Oversee/direct multiple drilling methods for sample collection, remedial actions, and other environmental purposes.
  • Execute field components of remedial investigations and actions
  • Prepare field observations, data collection, and field data interpretation sections of reports for which they collected the data. This will grow into quantitative laboratory data interpretation.
  • Anticipated division of job-related tasks is about a 50/50 split between office and field work.
  • Qualified candidates must be comfortable with travel within Washington State, Alaska, and other states within the REM West region and Hawaii.
  • Need to be receptive to mentoring and training for Deputy Project Manager responsibilities

  • BA/BS degree in Geology or Engineering plus 2 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must successfully pass preemployment background check to include a Motor Vehicle Record Screening

Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Geology or Engineering or related discipline.
  • Geologist-in-Training (GIT) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification (or eligible to complete upon hire)
  • 3+ years of experience within the consulting industry, demonstrating technical leadership in conducting remedial investigations and design.
  • Experienced with site assessment and characterization, remediation, environmental chemistry, etc.
  • Project and task management, client interaction, proposal writing, cost estimating, overseeing implementation/construction of remedial actions, technical report writing, and mentoring.
  • Possess current 40-Hour HAZWOPER and Supervisor certifications and be able to meet the medical clearance requirements of an OSHA (HAZWOPER) medical surveillance physical examination.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and preparing technical reports.
  • Knowledgeable and experience working in the State of Washington and or State of Alaska including an understanding of the Model Toxics Control Act (MTCA), Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) regulations, and or Alaska State Regulations.
  • Good skills in written and spoken communication (including polished client presentation skills), organization, time management.
  • Able to work as part of a project team comprised of AECOM staff and subcontractors.
  • Ability to travel
